Congratulations, you are now a new mother! After nine months of miraculous changes, emotional trials, sleepless nights, hundreds or maybe thousands of pages of literature, unfathomable love, you gave birth to a beautiful bundle(s) of joy. You watched your body grow and shift in crazy cool ways, to adjust to a life being created within you. A truly amazing process has taken place and your life has changed forever.
There are many things that come to mind when the term ‘motherhood’ is brought about; many of them being positive, though some, during the transition and adjustment periods, those can be daunting. After the birthing process, it is safe to say your body has been through war. However, there is little time for yourself or the rest and recovery your body needs. There is a lot of emphasis put on the importance of Prenatal Massage Therapy, which helps relax your mind, spirit and body, increase circulation and overall ease the pregnancy. Yet, it is very important to carry on with your Therapeutic Massage Postnatal.
Most individuals that come in for massage are often looking for two things, relaxation and/or relief of muscle pain. As most mothers can attest, post labor, they undergo a lot of stress and are in a lot of pain. Stress effects everyone in multiple ways, however when one is running on minimal sleep, stress greatly takes over their life and can be the catalyst for a lot of discomfort. After pregnancy, women experience a lot of muscle tension and soreness. Their spine has shifted to accommodate the baby during pregnancy, breast feeding as led to an achy back and pectoral muscles, arms and legs are sore from endless hours of holding, abdominal muscles pull at the slightest movements, and the list goes on.
Now for the good news! Massage Therapy after a pregnancy can expedite the overall healing process in numerous ways. First and foremost, it is always helpful when one has a good and clear mind. A Swedish Massage will relax your mind body and spirit, as well as increase circulation, which will aid the overall healing of the body and boost milk production, help get rid of access fluids and toxins in the lymphatic system and balance out hormones and lessen the chances of postpartum depression. Sleep will come easier as well, even during the middle of the night feedings and diaper changes. It is important to not forget about yourself, and no, that is not selfish during this time. Your focus has been on the newest addition to your family, but it is absolutely paramount that you are in a great place, to allow yourself you care for this little one.
