Nikki Roach with Co-Owner of Earthbound Arts Gordon “Flash” Jones
Recently David Ford of local National Public Radio (NPR) Affiliate WFDD did a story featuring local business owners and their thoughts about the new president Donald Trump. In the story he commented on how calming the office smelled when he came in. This prompted our team to give you the reader a little history of how this smell factor came into being.
Back in the 90’s before 6th Sense Health and Wellness Center was even thought of, one of our founders was a VW Beetle enthusiast. His 1978 convertible Blue/White Volkswagen “Bug” was one of only 2 in the area. He went to all the local bug shows and after a time like all vintage vehicles the Bug needed some work. On a chance occurrence he ran into a man that looked every much like a member of ZZ top or one of the Duck Dynasty clan.
At the time Gordon better known as “FLASH” was the owner of Earthbound Imports that specialized in fixing vintage VW’s. He did an amazing job at keeping the car on the road. However over time like many wondering souls, he settled down to marry his later business partner and they opened Earthbound Art nearly 18 years ago.
An eclectic center of earth ware and natural scents in the heart of Winston Salem arts district… It was there that after years of sharing stories about cars that we formed an allegiance that has continued since the opening of 6th Sense Health and Wellness.
Earthbound has been our local go to supplier for nose friendly aroma and olfactory magic. We use their locally created scents in our treatment rooms, massage creams and even in our renowned Aroma Steam Cabinet using Aroma Therapy treatments.
What is Aromatherapy?
Aromatherapy is the practice of using the natural oils extracted from flowers, bark, stems, leaves, roots or other parts of a plant to enhance psychological and physical well-being.
The inhaled aroma from these “essential” oils is widely believed to stimulate brain function. Essential oils can also be absorbed through the skin, where they travel through the bloodstream and can promote whole-body healing.
A form of alternative medicine, aromatherapy is gaining momentum. It is used for a variety of applications, including pain relief, mood enhancement and increased cognitive function.
We use a wide number of essential oils available, each with its own healing properties.
If ever you are in the Art District, stop on by Earthbound Arts and pick up a bottle of Signature Scents. It’s one of our favorite. Unfortunately we will not tell you the creation they specially make for us. (Smile) To get that you will just have to come on down to the office and your nose will love you more.
