Working in and working out – use another preposition and you get a completely different meaning and, sure enough, activity. But, combining working out with your working day can be an effective way to release stress, and with the right effort, even get you a promotion. How, will you ask? A piece of cake, we say!

For starters, let’s take a look at the facts. The studies show that people who take at least 30 minutes on their working day to exercise, prove to be better employees and significantly succeed in their work. Heck, some companies even organize a work-out space for their employees in the office. So, how comes that employees who take some time to exercise during the working day are more likely to get the next promotion?

Boost Your Productivity

Exercising during a working day can boost your productivity and help you get more work done in the long run. According to the study, carried out by the British scientists, the employees of a university, an insurance firm and a computer company who spent half an hour to an hour exercising on a workday, had their performance increased by 15%. And the over 50% of those employees reported their time management and meeting deadlines improved.

Improves Brain Function

According to a study of Body-Brain Performance Institute, there is an obvious connection between exercising and the brain function and lower level of stress. In a study, the employees from the exercising group showed an increase in an overall brain function by 40%, achieving better concentration, making better decisions and being more efficient.

Fewer Sick Days

Exercising for at least 2.5 hours a week brings an obvious advantage to your health. It improves the blood flow, boosts your immune system and significantly lowers the risk of having a stroke, a heart attack or diabetes. And it surely decreases the number of days you would miss from work due to the health issues. Frankly speaking, who doesn’t value a reliable employee who doesn’t take sick days on a regular basis and can be on-call for their duties, ready and willing?

Get a Breakthrough Idea

Stuck at the same point for over an hour? Start moving, take a walk or do a few pull-ups. The breakthrough idea will come to you. According to a study in the Journal of Experimental Phycology, walking helps creative thinking boosting it up by 60%, whether indoors or outdoors. As mentioned before, your productivity will improve, and the solution will come running if you find some work-out time on a workday.

Work Through Discomfort

While working out, you can come across some tough activity that can make you uncomfortable and want to stop. But you force yourself through it and keep going. You can apply the same principle in your work; when you face a problem that seems impossible to resolve, you learn to keep pushing yourself through it and, eventually, you achieve the desired result. Regular exercising can help you not to give up half-way through and keep going to the end which makes you the one in your office who can solve the impossible. Smells like promotion, doesn’t it?

Boost your Confidence

Working out makes you feel healthier, think clearer and focus easier so you can perform your regular tasks better and do more work. Sure enough, your confidence will rise along with this. According to a Finnish study, men who regularly work out, experience less stress at work and are more energetic and confident in their everyday work.

So, seems like exercising can really bring you a step closer to the promotion you are looking for. Worth giving it a shot, we believe!
